At just 17 years old, Matilda’s career is flourishing more each day. Despite being only a year into her songwriting journey, Matilda has had her first publicly available song ‘7 Wonders’ gain airplay from local radio stations across the state (Townsville, Brisbane, Cairns) and as far as Adelaide.
Her succeeding release of ‘Empty’ on Triple J Unearthed not only scored her a place on the Unearthed Weekly Top 100 Chart for 2 weeks, but won her an Unearthed competition. As a winner of this competition, in late November 2018, Matilda was asked to join Aussie indie/rock legends The Rubens for a leg of their national tour, opening for the band and joining them for a duet of their latest platinum single ‘Never Ever’.
Matilda’s music is rather undefined to a specific genre and each new song can be quite different from the last. Her mellow, lyrical acoustic style varies from an indie-folk feel to more upbeat rocky tunes, sure to appeal to all music lovers.
Currently a working musician and playing gigs frequently in Townsville city’s best venues and years worth of performing up her sleeve, Matilda is no stranger to performances of any nature.
Matilda Duncan is currently on the bill for a local music festival in Townsville (which cannot be named until the line-up release later in 2019) with the potential of others to be confirmed.
Other namely performances include: numerous Neighbourhood Sessions’ including 2 headline gigs and a songwriters-in-the-round style festival, Commonwealth Games (Townsville) opening Ceremony, Townsville Chinese New Year Festival (musician), Townsville Triathlon Festival, Spotlight Performer (guest artist) at the Charters Towers Country Music Festival 2017 and joining The Rubens for a leg of their national Lo La Ru tour.
